about
Vanessa “V” Steele’s work explores themes of identity and morality through textured compositions in monochromatic tones. Her practice is rooted in critical personal reflection, shaped by health and relational challenges. Through layering and deconstruction, her work plays on the tension between presence and absence, inviting viewers to confront their own emotional landscapes and personal philosophies.
background
Vanessa first began exploring her creativity in early childhood when her Uncle gifted her a sketchbook and drawing pencils, sparking a lifelong passion.
She earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Appalachian State University, where she developed strong foundational skills in visual language, composition, and creative thinking.
After five years working in marketing and design agencies as an award-winning Art Director, she decided to start her own freelance business, based in Charlotte, NC, while simultaneously building a career in visual arts. Since then, her artwork has been featured in several prominent galleries and venues, including The Mint Museum and Goodyear Arts.
